Why You Must Prepare in Advance?
A nuclear emergency can happen suddenly. There may be no time to run. But if you plan ahead, you can save lives — your own and your family’s.
Preparing doesn’t need to be expensive or complicated. You just need a few smart steps and calm thinking.

1. Make a Basic Survival Kit
You need items that will help you live without going outside for 3–5 days.
Here’s what to keep ready in a big bag or box:
- 🥤 Drinking water (at least 4 liters per person per day)
- 🍪 Dry food: biscuits, rice, dal, nuts, ORS
- 🧻 Toilet paper, sanitary pads, soap
- 💊 Basic medicines: paracetamol, bandages, antiseptic
- 🔦 Torchlight, extra batteries, radio (battery/crank)
- 😷 N95 mask or clean cloth to cover nose
- 📑 Important documents (ID cards, health info)
- 📱 Power bank (fully charged)

2. Choose the Safest Room in Your House
If a nuclear blast happens, the outside air will be full of dangerous radiation (called “fallout”). You must stay inside a closed room.
The safest room is:
- 🪟 A room with no windows
- 🧱 In the center or lowest floor (ground or basement)
- 🚪 Easy to close off (you can seal doors with plastic or tape)

3. Make the Room Fallout-Ready
Once you’ve selected the room:
- ✅ Seal windows and doors with plastic sheets and duct tape
- ✅ Block vents or holes with wet cloth or newspaper
- ✅ Keep your survival kit inside this room
- ✅ Keep a bucket with lid for emergency toilet
You may need to stay in this room for 48–72 hours.

4. Stay Calm, Stay Informed
Fear is natural — but don’t panic. Make sure to:
- Tell all family members what to do
- Have a plan to reach the safe room in 10 seconds
- Keep a radio to hear government instructions
- Practice once a month like a fire drill
